Newt can say whatever he wants to, he will be remembered as a disgrace and a total failure in the history book footnotes. That is good enough for me.

so is his role in impeachment. The books already out on this subject recognize his very central role in this. Somebody will write a long bio of him, guaranteed. I hope somebody like Caro. His role is far more complex, and far from a footnote.

in the meantime, us "crazy kids" will get our asses in gear and do what we can to reverse or mitigate the enormous damage Newt's "normals" have already caused, and maybe while we're at it we can push things forward a little bit to keep this country abreast of the rest of the industrialized world.

that has talking snakes, rules against eating shellfish, smitings of babies and children, supernatural winged creatures, a zombie (okay, lych) who rolled away a rock, a mean, nasty, vengeful sky god who murdered most of the population of Earth with a flood, etc.

From the article: Huckabee responded by declaring that the standard of all truth is the Bible. Distorting the laws of nature, he said, is akin to playing the piano without a tuning fork — or baking a cake without the proper measurements of salt, flour and sugar. “You’re going to have a disaster on your hands,” he said.

This isn't too fucking weird: 2 KINGS 6:29: "So we boiled my son, and did eat him: and I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son, that we may eat him: and she hath hid her son."

Leviticus 25:44: "Your male and female slaves are to come from the nations around you; from them you may buy slaves."

Deuteronomy 13:12-15, if you find that the people in the city you're visiting worship another god, you have to kill them all."

Leviticus 10:6: “Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people.”

Leviticus 20:10: "If a man cheats on his wife, or vise versa, both the man and the woman must die."

There are a lot of Republicans in Congress who should be stoned to death, pronto.

Great source for "morality," huh?!

Huckabee and people like him don't acknowledge that the book is a bunch of weird-ass primitive myths slapped together a couple thousand years ago that express good, bad, and just plain bizarre sentiments and strange rules and orders. They say the Bible is the word of an omnipotent deity and only source of truth (like Huckabee did in the article), so the Bible thumpers must believe all of the fucked-up, twisted, sicko, and truly nutty things in the Bible, as well as the more positive things. And yet "leftists" who want equal rights are the weird ones.

I look forward to seeing how this expression of real change in the eletorae plays out in the primary and the General election.

Quite a few states have been gerrymandered to make them safe for Republicans. It will be interesting to see how this affects the electorate in those "safe seats."
