Southern segregationist Senators, all Democrats, were filibustering it. Senators like Al Gore Senior and Bill Clinton's mentor William Fulbright.

(commenting only on the phrase itself, not any issues in particular)

because it always pre-supposes that any change that is happening is for the better, it commits the fallacy of 'bandwagon'

some could have argued that not supporting Hitler (Godwin's law acknowledged) in 1931 was 'being on the wrong side of history

or any enlightenment at the dawn of the dark ages...
