Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul met with southern Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy on Monday during a question-and-answer session in the town of Mesquite with supporters and activists interested in land rights.
The meeting northeast of Las Vegas was part of a statewide tour with stops from Las Vegas to rural Elko.
The Kentucky senator stopped at casino resorts and ballrooms Monday as part of his "Stand with Rand" tour, looking to win over small-government Republicans he believes are key to a successful result in Nevada's February presidential caucus.
In Mesquite, Paul fielded questions on public land control a contentious topic in a state where more than 80 percent of the land is owned by the federal government. In an interview with The Associated Press, Paul said he'd favor transferring federally owned land back to state control.

(82,849 posts)It would be a surprise if that bigot didn't meet with the racist. I wonder if they exchanged bon mots of what they know about the Negro?

"Americans aren't wrong to deplore the millions of Hispanics coming here. A non-white majority America would simply cease to be America."
-- Jack Hunter, Rand Paul's staff member and co-suthor, who also said he toasted John Wilkes Booth every year on the anniversary of Lincoln's murder
Paul defended Hunter and was absolutely puzzled as to why anyone would say he was racist

(597 posts)From reading the linked article, it is unclear whether Rand a) had a private meeting with Bundy or b) Bundy showed up at one of Rand's tour stops and Rand spoke with him in public during a Q&A.
If the latter, I see much less hoopla than the former in terms of the significance. I mean, I wouldn't call an Obama press conference "meets with lying conservative fearmongers" if he answered a question from a Fox News reporter. Either way, Rand knows it would be good PR for him, it's not like he's losing any of our votes by doing so.

(1,333 posts)he should refuse attending any event where he is supposed to show up and certainly should refuse to answer any question he asks.

(28,264 posts)And if Rand Paul thinks it's "good PR" to hang out with someone who (1) owes the federal government more than $1 million in unpaid grazing fees; (2) had a rag-tag "militia" congregated on or near his premises, with their assault rifles trained on federal employees lawfully going about their duties; and (3) publicly stated his belief that black people had things better when they were slaves---well, then, I hope Rand Paul gets as much of that "good PR" as possible. He deserves it.
