The murders happened because of the racism, not the gun. The gun merely facilitated the murders. He could have just as easily have dynamited the place, or chained the doors shut and torched it or whatever.

Guns kill far too many, and make massacres too easy, but we can't simply keep on ignoring the countless numbers killed by racism, whether it's hanging, burning, shooting, choking, dragging, beating or any other brutally violent way to maim and murder.
