Response times?

I have DSL with Verizon. My response times are getting so bad on ALL sites, that I frequently
get a 'page can't be displayed' (time out?). Is anyone else getting bad response times?
When they changed something on the internet, I recall reading that response times would probably suffer. My response times seem to get slower and slower each day. Today
is the worse yet?

Fairpoint.net is who brings us the internet
DU has been slow for a while here for me

Google has one of their Data Centers about 2 miles from me and they can't even bring us internet services here in chouteau because of some such shit about grandfather or some crap that the local telephone company uses to keep all competition out

Slowing things down too much would be a give-a-way. So they slow everything down just a tad at a time.
