Should the Confederate Flag Fly on the Fourth of July? (PLEASE DU THIS POLL!!!)

It's a day where Americans come together to celebrate freedom and independence.

But this year, one Fourth of July tradition in parades across Texas, will take center-stage.

Marshall Davis President of the Sons of Confederate Veterans say they will march proudly in Independence Day parades, carrying the confederate battle flag.

"Our contemporary, regimental and divisional flags that we have, feature different sections of the confederate flag, so they have every intention of it still being flown at the Fourth of July and in the future," Davis said.

But it's that same flag that grabbed the nations attention in June, after a Charleston man shot and killed 9 people in a historic African American church.

Individuals? I could care less. If someone wants to hang a flag from the Scottish army of 1220, it's none of my business.

Should be relegated to history and only flown in museums with the other confederate flags. Other than that they should only fly into the trash heap.

In other words, no.

It defeats the purpose of the holiday.

Which as we all know is to drink beer and go shopping. ( Hopefully in reverse order.)

It should not fly anywhere in the United States of America at any time, despite what you may hear from the Confederate Swastika Apologists here at DixieKKKrat Underground.

are quite striking to the reality of the time period:

The citizen-soldiers who fought for the Confederacy personified the best qualities of America. The preservation of liberty and freedom was the motivating factor in the South's decision to fight the Second American Revolution. The tenacity with which Confederate soldiers fought underscored their belief in the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. These attributes are the underpinning of our democratic society and represent the foundation on which this nation was built.

If someone wants to fly it on their private property, I have no issue with that.

...I think an all out ban may be strong. Nothing will cause people to bring that flag to the track more than telling them it's banned.

I know NASCAR officially discourages that flag at their events because I recall a few years ago when someone wanted to enter a General Lee themed race car. NASCAR told them absolutely no confederate flag on the roof. I believe rules about what can go on a participant's race car is good policy. Dress codes and bans on flags for fans... not so much.

As an aside, I had a NASCAR friend back then complaining about how the General Lee couldn't have that flag. I told him I'd like to enter a car with the Union flag called the General Sherman. It could have garish flames down the sides and the slogan "Burning a trail of wins from the Ohio river all the way to Atlanta" and see if that offended anyone in Dixie. He didn't get it, so I guess history is not really a strong suit to those kind of people.
