July 7, 1998 A two-day general strike called by a coalition of 60 unions

A two-day general strike called by a coalition of 60 unions shuts down most of Puerto Rico. More than half a million people participated in the walkout, supporting striking telephone workers and protesting plans to privatize the telephone company. It was the largest work stoppage in the island’s history.

So many that are making it in this economy appear unwilling to risk their status quo for real change, even if the status quo harms many others. It is the "I got mine" mentality imo. I can not say I am even guilt free on this account. It is scarry to take risks when you still have something to lose. I just happened to have already lost everything, so those types of risks don't impact me very much anymore.
