Shenyang apartment balcony collapses as tenant cooks nearby

A balcony on the seventh floor of a building in Shenyang, Liaoning province suddenly cracked and fell off, bringing down with it the balcony on the floor below. The incident has raised concern among tenants over the construction quality of the residential building.

The female owner of the flat was cooking in the kitchen when she suddenly heard cracking noises coming from the balcony. She was about to go check on it, but a ringing timer stopped her. A few seconds later, she heard a loud noise and turned around to see that her balcony had "vanished".



The woman, sur named Li, had seemingly been saved by the bell. She said she was thankful she didn't go check on the balcony right away, or she may have gone down with it.

Frighteningly enough, when the structure on the seventh floor collapsed, it dragged the balcony on the sixth floor down with it. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the impact of the falling balconies crushed part the balcony on fifth floor as well.
