Mobile City Council changes city seal to remove Confederate flag

The Confederate flag has been removed from Mobile’s official city seal. And the French, British, Spanish, and Republic of Alabama flags are gone with it ... Councilwoman Bess Rich proposed switching to the less controversial Stars and Bars – the First National Flag of the Confederacy ... But her idea had no support ... The Council ultimately determined that all flags be removed from the city seal. At the suggestion of Mayor Sandy Stimpson, the Council then made an exception for the U.S. flag. “There’s nothing divisive, there’s nothing oppressive about our American flag,” said Councilman Levon Manzie ...
