First, check your state and local laws. In most places, you are allowed pepper spray, but not chemical mace. You definitey want to check on this.

Second, don't believe the advertising that says "instantly paralyzes any attacker" and stuff ike that. It will cause momentary blindness, some coughing and choking, etc. This gives you time to run away. That's about it.

Wind and rain make it much less effective. Some people will be more affected than others. We had guys that were basically immune from CS gas in the army. May have little effect on someone hopped up on drugs.

I don't remember if it was in Basic or AIT, but the drill sergeant would gather a group of us in a very small building and pop CS. It was an exercise both to train us to recognize CS and to test us on rapidly donning our gas masks.

The funniest thing I saw in training was when they used CS on us in a field situation. One guy jumped up and ran--kicking away the masks of a couple of guys who were just putting them on.

I've often contemplated carrying a concealed weapon, but I've never really been into that. Now, I carry nothing, no particular reason.

The mace container leaked as did others, eventually, I guess it gets corrosive. And the battery clips in the stun gun broke, rendering it useless.

To me, I think it's a good idea to have something if one is about much. I used to be, especially at night, but not so much anymore.

As someone was saying, check with your area, some places are so strange it's often easier to carry a gun than mace.

cheap. I had one once and I decided to try it. Pressed it down and nothing happened. It was stuck, much like on a defective paint can. When I shook it, it was full, just would not spray anything out.

bit larger in size, but same amount. This was a great find, what you and I got, model 80112. Here's a spec. sheet that was pretty interesting. From what I've read MACE as the manufacturer is best. Thanks again!!! So many of these other makes often seem to be junk, but these are the good ones! http://www.mace.com/pdf/2013-mpd_buyersguide-v5d.pdf

Once in middleschool I walked through a cloud of it in the hallway.
The other time was at FLETC to "know what it feels like" before I could carry it. I'm glad I didn't have to get shot to "know what it feels like" before I could carry a gun.

bought me mace and pepper spray thingies all the time.

I always set them to the side. I lived in the Florida Keys and never felt the need for them.

Now back in the "regular states", I'm thinking about buying one.

Really pointless when I'm out in the country on my dad's land. We have a gun, geese, dogs, and I have a knife nearby.

I wonder sometimes, if men understand how we women have to keep this kind of thing in the back of our mind. Protection, always protection. My dad worried all the time about us.

He is gone, but he needs not to worry. He raised smart tough women.

Grizzly Bear Warning Sign
Due to the frequency of human-bear encounters, the B.C. Fish and Wildlife Branch is advising hikers, hunters, fishermen and any persons that use the out of doors in a recreational or work related function to take extra precautions while in the field.

We advise the outdoorsman to wear little noisy bells on clothing so as to give advanced warning to any bears that might be close by so you don’t take them by surprise.

We also advise anyone using the out-of-doors to carry “Pepper Spray” with him is case of an encounter with a bear.

Outdoorsmen should also be on the watch for fresh bear activity, and be able to tell the difference between black bear feces and grizzly bear feces. Black bear feces is smaller and contains lots of berries and squirrel fur. Grizzly bear shit has bells in it and smells like pepper.

- It's not made for self-defense, so it won't work as well. It might not work at all.
- You could get in trouble for using it as a weapon
- Big containers - it's not really practical

Mace - any kind, would always be a better option for self defense.

I was sprayed by an errant fascist landlord. It burned bad but did not stop me and was not a factor in the ensuing fist fight. I don't carry anything but I've had my "I dunno about this," moments for sure.

I live in a concealed carry state now, so I have something a little more effective now. In college that wasn't an option.
