on Chris Matthews. Matthews was such a bully that I had to sympathize with Cruz. He told personal stories of his family members that were arrested and tortured by the Castro regime, and his description of his aunt was charming. He even took back his attack on Chuck Hagel - most of it. Compared to him, Matthews was really revolting. I cannot see how Matthews can promote or advance liberal causes, except when he has good informed guests who get to say a word or two between his shouting.
This is really the reason why we watch him. Because he brings issues that no one else does, perhaps Rachel, but she is later in the evening.
I don't understand, also why he has to show whatever Trump has to spout. This is the same with Palin and Bachmann - who cares what any of them say? But they are outrageous, just to be outrageous that they get air time.
Yes, I cannot believe I actually am saying this..

(3,433 posts)The fact that you are able to recognize something like this and see it for what it was without allowing preconceived notions or emotionalism to override objectivity shows that you are mature. Everyone has a story and sometimes that story resonates with and touches us even when the gross majority of their views and opinions are contrary to our own. As for Matthews, I'm not surprised by his behavior. Sure, his politics match our own but he is still part of the main stream media and they have one mandate; sensationalize for profit. Exploiting tragedy and scandal is SOP. When tragedy and scandal isn't available, they rehash or carefully reword headlines and lead-ins to make it appear that they have something juicy to offer. With online news it is click bait and more sensationalism to keep readers and viewers interested. It keeps them coming back which increases viewership and page hits... which ALL leads to more advertisement seen. 90% of all media providers in the US are owned by 6 corporations. The entire industry is corrupt.
Self Edit: The other comment in this thread is exactly the type of thing I am talking about. Emotionalism.

(9,999 posts)when it is about THEM. How much compassion would he show towards an illegal immigrant coming here to escape the very things that were so hard for his family.
Having said that, your post says much more about YOU than him. You are a compassionate soul capable of empathy for the suffering of others and for that, I commend you, question everything.
