The war on women isnt over.
Nearly every day, there is a new unconscionable attack designed to restrict access to abortion. The oldest of these attacks is the Hyde Amendment, which Congress adds each year to strip women of their fundamental right to access all of their health care options. The amendment prevents women who receive their health insurance through the federal government from receiving abortion coverage.
It is clear that these attacks have one goal: preventing women, especially low-income women and women of color, from making the best health care decision for themselves and their families. This needs to stop.
Today, we start pushing back. Today, we make it clear that every woman has a right to make her own health care decisions, especially with such an important decision as whether to become a parent.

(3,660 posts)but it's about time the good guys learned to play wedge issue politics to turn out the base. The nutjobs sure as hell won't make this an issue.

Well that would be fail for mor reasons than I could possibly list. Starting with the fact I can't even get a job as a receptionist.
But I did get the cheap thrill of an endorsement this week. That's enough fuel for me.

(43,364 posts)want to control women's bodies and force poor women to have kids
the women don't want and can't afford
Then the pro-Lifer's cut food stamps and aid to the poor
Treating women like cattle and denying adequate support is really
short-sighted
The kids are like plants with little water and 20 minutes of sun a day

(81,527 posts)Heard that one? I think it was from Virginia where I heard that, from some republi-CON state legislator or some such - maybe bob mcdonnell or ken "coach", regarding another restrictive dictate imposed upon women's gynecologists' examining rooms.

"Today, we start pushing back." Well, about time, I'd say. Some of us have been pushing with all our strength for years to protect this right that is literally under siege.

(17,997 posts)Sick of the war on women. Sick, sick, sick of it.
I can't believe we actually have women in jail for having an abortion or miscarriage. Like we're living in another world.

(33,688 posts)and was quite a hot issue in the Carter presidency. I recall Carter not objecting to it much and making some mealy mouthed comment about "life not being fair." IOW, tough shit, poor women, don't look to ME to stand up for you.

(82,849 posts)We're not done yet. This looks like another good battle, long overdue to be fought. No, it probably won't be won by Labor Day, but if we fight for it, we'll win, make no mistake.
