Former Eagles Member Randy Meisner Allegedly Threatened Murder-Suicide

Former Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, who departed the group in 1977, has been placed under court-ordered 24-hour supervision after allegedly threatening murder-suicide with an AK-47 and pills last January. An L.A. County Superior Court judge appointed a conservator to administer the musician’s prescriptions and oversee his well-being on Wednesday until a follow-up hearing in September, according to New York Daily News.

The 68-year-old spoke in court only to give his age, the paper reports. His friend, James Newton, had filed the documents necessary for possible conservatorship in April. Newton’s lawyer, Troy Martin, claimed that Meisner had been diagnosed as bipolar and suffers from “suicidal ideations.”

Martin told the court that the bassist “threatened to gun everyone down with an AK-47” in medical records from an Encino, California hospital. The musician did not have a firearm with him when he made the threat, according to the paper. Meisner also allegedly threatened to take all of his prescriptions and kill himself on a separate occasion. The musician had been hospitalized several times, the lawyer said, for alcoholism and was also given a prescription to treat a “mood disorder.”

Meisner’s lawyer argued that the claims were “widely overblown.” Both lawyers agreed to try mediation before the follow-up hearing

I was just thinking about Randy Meisner the other day as I was listening to some music. I listened to some Eagles, then some Don Henley, Glenn Frey & Joe Walsh... and was thinking how they all had pretty decent solo careers after the Eagles, but Randy Meisner never really took off. I can only think of one song that he did, and can't even think of the name of it at this moment.

Peace,

Ghost

When things calm down, there is an excellent book for those left behind to survive - 'Silent Grief: Living in the Wake of Suicide' by Christopher Lukas.

It helped me so much to deal with all of the grief, anger and guilt.

Again, my sympathies to you.

I just found out some more information last night. He had been having trouble with his wife, her threatening to leave the state with their 2 kids and he would never see them again.

He had tried to check himself into a mental health facility 3 times that week, each time being told that he needed rehab, not mental health help. I guess he was using drugs...

See, I am 52 years old, he was in his early 20's. His mother, my Aunt, is just 4 years older than me. I have an Aunt who is 1 year older than me. My mom is the oldest of 10 kids, with a 20 year gap between my mom and the youngest.

After the 3rd time of being turned down, he went back to the apartment that he shared with his older brother. At some time during the day, something happened between him and the wife and he shot at her with a shotgun. luckily he missed her and hit a lamp, but turned around and stuck the barrel in his mouth and pulled the trigger. His brother was in his own bedroom while all this happened.

The mental health care must really suck in Florida when you tell them that you have murder/suicide idealizations and they refer you to rehab instead. I wish the family could have gotten together and had him placed in a mental health facility under the "Baker Act". I don't know if that's what they still call it in FL or not, but know that they have a different name for it in TN. All it takes is for 2 or 3 friends/family members to sign papers stating that you are a danger to yourself, or others, and they can hold you for observation for 72 hours.

Thank you again, and to you as well...

Peace,

Ghost

that his solo career didn't take off like the others in the band, and wondered if that ate at him for all these years, too.

You never know what can/will trigger a person...

It was also the cause of him leaving the band because he didn't like to sing the high notes live.......Him and Glenn Fry got in a fist fight after a show because of it.......then he was gone.
