The cultural demand here is that women be kept in a permanent, impossible bind where they bear sole responsibility for sexual conduct.

If they "do it wrong," women must pay, preferably with their health, reputation, and lives. They can make babies for men they are married to, period, or they can suffer, be shamed, or die.

These people couldn't possibly care less about a bundle of immature cells in a woman's womb. If they were caught in a fire in a fertility clinic, and the choice was to save 30,000 frozen zygotes in a cooler or their favorite hat, only the hat would make it out alive.

The fact that perfectly mainstream Republicans like Paul Ryan can stand in public and call for underaged girls or victims or rape and incest, or women whose lives are in danger, or any woman at all, to be forced to give birth on pain of criminal prosecution, and not be hounded out of civilized society, is as dark and evil as humanity gets.

I don't know why we are still even having this "debate," but it's way past time to push back much harder than we are now.

It was a deal with the devil of religious zealotry that is still threatening to rip this country apart, just so that man could get into office and destroy the New Deal so his rich friends could get richer a lot faster and without having to work for it.

With any luck at all, it will rip the GOP apart instead. Devils always want to take over.
