I thought Jim Webb was a democrat. Guess I was wrong.

He sure doesn't sound like one...

Jim Webb Equates Trump's Racist Remarks With Liberal Rhetoric On 'Southern White Culture'

Jim Webb ran to Fox "news" this Sunday to trash liberals and conflate the push to remove the Confederate flag from government property with Trump's racist remarks about Mexicans.

resolved. He didn't say he supported leaving it up on state capital buildings. Maybe he, like me, thinks it's silly to ban it everywhere, even on TV shows and stained-glass windows.

better than a republican but just barely.. It's still helpful to have them around to gain a majority, but their votes can never really be counted on, and they say the oddest things sometimes

And you don't have any idea where 90% of my family comes from and still resides.

Webb was a Republican in the past. Like one of his competitors.

But he was a Democratic senator from Virginia.

He's got pretty good positions on foreign policy, Wall Street, and criminal justice. To the left of Hillary, I'd say.

They're all a mixed bag, aren't they?

and that life and reality rarely fit into neat niches or restrictive pigeonholes. It all tends to be troublesome, nuanced, and quite messy, and is all the richer, and ultimately better resolved, for its diversity and conflict.

Neither did Republic0ns, because for them, they must be as conservative as they can get and that's why Mitt Romney claimed to be ‘severely conservative’ when he ran for president.

Wikipedia: "During the Reagan Administration, Webb served as the nation's first Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs from 1984 to 1987.

In 1987, he served as Secretary of the Navy, becoming the first Naval Academy graduate to serve as the civilian head of the Navy. As Navy Secretary, Webb pushed the appointment of Alfred M. Gray, Jr. as Commandant of the Marine Corps, hoping that Gray could reshape the Corps into the elite unit it once was.[27] Webb resigned in 1988 after refusing to agree to reduce the size of the Navy. Webb had wished to increase the Navy to 600 ships. As revealed in The Reagan Diaries, President Ronald Reagan wrote on February 22, 1988: "I don't think Navy was sorry to see him go."[28]"

I heard one interview with him. All he did was praise Reagan.

I don't know jack about Webb* but I'm not seeing anything in the article where he's defending flying the confederate flag. Some of our southern DUers might appreciate not getting the broad brush treatment and attacks on the general culture of the south while they too support the flag coming down.
