let’s get this Chapo/TRUMP thing clear (translation) from a Democratic view

The Chapo dude is no more a hero than TRUMPster is. CHAPOster. He’ a drug dealing murderer, no matter how CUTE he is.

Chapo’s “escape” (he didn’t escape, he was ENABLED to escape, hey he’s a billionaire!1) HELPS TRUMP in his blowviating.

So Chapo (means “short dude”) and TRUMP are partners in media attention, they ought to have a pre-nup type thing.

The Trump seems to have better lawyers in showing him how to be a crook legally.

Billionaires live in a small world so its not unlikely that they have met or have mutual friends. Frankly I think this plays too well into to Trumps hand for it to be coincidence. Didn't Trump not that long ago stage some sort of event.

makes people question the entire concept of the drug war.

El Chapo is a hero in Sinaloa, he has narcocorridos written about his exploits by the dozens, and more will follow in the wake of this escape. He plays Robin Hood amongst his peeps, many are loyal, still others, afraid. Bootleggers were involved in criminal activity too--people died keeping the liquor flowing when it was made illegal; eventually they came to respectability--one even saw his son become President of the USA.

Mr. Guzman will only help Trump with idiots who hate "minorities" and want to have an object for their "They're takin' our JERBS" attitude and ire. The fact of the matter is that the invective-spewing and crude Mr. Guzman is far more articulate than Trump, and can communicate far more clearly in Spanish, in a hundred and forty characters, than Trump can in English with a thousand or more words. The people who would never vote for Trump are the ones who find this whole exchange amusing...and it IS amusing, because Trump is behaving in the exact way that George Bernard Shaw proscribed when he said "I learned long ago, never to wrestle with a pig. You get dirty, and besides, the pig likes it."

Of course, I imagine, in contemplation, that Guzman feels the same way.

I think the whole mess is funny in a sick, stupid, ain't that just awful, train wreck kind of way--and whoever did that photoshop of Chapo in front of the Trump Towers made my day. I guffawed.

Trump demanding that the FBI "investigate" the tweets makes him seem weak and fearful. In truth Guzman isn't going to bother with him, he's going to get back to running his cartel and staying ahead of/buying off the law.

It wouldn't take much, whether a direct contract or a zombie follower thinking he's doing what the boss wants (think, "BECKETT&quot , for one of The Chapo (think "The Donald," get it?!1)'s worshippers to off TRUMP, which would set off a frenzy everywhere (wingnuts are just as nuts as the drug gangs are).

I don't see any of this contributing to any thoughtful rethinking of the war on drugs, it's all a non-thinking explosive thing.

And not only did a bootlegger's son become President, but many of the hallowed Founding generation were smugglers of various commodities.

As for TRUMP's drama of asking the FBI to investigate, this might give TRUMP a way to get out of his losing or fake candidature, saying the VERY REAL THREATS don't make it worth it all.
