Unlike GOP desires, you're kept us out of another unwinnable war, improved international relations, and lowered the cost of crude oil.
Keep up the good work.
Not sure why this isn't a bigger story/issue on DU?

(22,912 posts)The diplomatic initiates that led to this breakthrough began when she was Secretary of State, that's when all of this got on track to begin with. If we are thanking Biden, for example, then Clinton deserves some praise also.

(59,503 posts)some Democrats to vote against the Republican disapproval. (She was there when it began, but only at the very very beginning - and it was Obama's decision to pursue it. (In fact, SFRC chair Kerry was used to investigate the possibility of using Oman as the back channel in 2012. Soon afterward, HRC left and Kerry was SoS. ) However, she, like Biden, was likely involved in the early discussions -- and one of the two people who was involved in the early 2003 secret negotiation was Jake Sullivan, a close HRC aide, then working for Biden. He now advises her campaign. (See - that pulls in both HRC and Biden)
Still, other than Obama, who risked a lot leading on this, the two cabinet people I give by FAR the most credit to are John Kerry and Earnest Moniz, who formed a great team (they've been friends for decades) in working through all these issues - each bringing their incredible intelligence, creativity, patience and determination to this. (All you have to think of are the number of articles that questioned the amount of time that Kerry put into the negotiations personally. Some almost made that work ethic and REALLY exhausting diplomacy rather than giving up seem wrong.)

(89,249 posts)Although I'm not sure how much credibility republicans have since they are always claiming disaster with anything obsma does. And we saw with health care that death panels and all the other fear mongering was just that and nothing more.

(59,503 posts)The fact that she is among the more hawkish Democrats, if she supports this convincingly, there may be some who might be convinced by her. I had thought more just because she is respected. In additiob, as the very likely next nominee and President, some may want to be in her good graces.
In the clip I saw, she was positive, but spoke of some concerns and failed - in spite of being asked repeatedly - the simple question of whether she supports it. She - and other former SoS were briefed, but in fairness, she probably has not had the time to read it.

(10,117 posts)...to all three, especially John Kerry, for not giving up on this goal...even when the hill to climb became steeper in November, 2004.
Thank you, Mr. Secretary, for your perseverance. When they are old enough to understand, my grandchildren will thank you, too! 🇺🇸
