http://www.ringoffireradio.com/2015/07/fox-pastor-jesus-wants-churches-to-turn-over-undocumented-immigrants-not-feed-or-shelter-them/Look, a lot of these liberal churches that harbor illegal immigrants, who are criminals, say they are following the example of Jesus. The only problem is they are following the Jesus of their imagination rather than the Jesus of the Bible, said Jeffress. Jesus was not this wimpy little guy who walked around munching sunflower seeds and saying nice things to people.
The real Jesus of the Bible said, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesars, that is, obey the government, said Jeffress.
During the same interview, Dr. Richard Land, Southern Evangelical Seminary President, argued against Jeffress. When people show up and theyre hungry, when theyre thirsty, when they need shelter, the cross of Christ says that this is a place where you are going to get a cup of cold water, where you are going to get some shelter, where you are going to get some hot food, said Land. And its not our job to be asking for green cards before we extend the mercy of Christ.

If that is the case, Hobby Lobby can start covering birth control, and florists can start decorating same sex marriage ceremonies, I guess.

(43,049 posts)I'm hardly a fan of evangelicals, but some do get a few things right:
1 Corinthians 13:13-- "And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity." That's King James, the one the fundies believe in; curiously, most other translations use "love" instead of "charity".
I'm seeing the Sanctuary movement starting to come back as a backlash against the revival of anti-immigrant hysteria. The concept of Sanctuary is as ancient as Moses and the command to set up towns as sanctuaries. Even the medieval Roman church accepted Sanctuary as a fundamental Christian tenet.
Personally, I really can't accept these megachurches as Christians. Not in thought nor deed they aren't.

And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt - Deuteronomy 10

(100,076 posts)If I remember Bible study, Jesus said that rich men will never enter the kingdom of heaven. He also said that he hated hypocrites. So why would Jesus contradict himself in the next verse? It would seem to me that of Jesus actually said that, he would have said it as sarcasm. Something that goes over the head of you supposed uber religious types.

So how about all you christians start obeying the government and quit trying to stop same sex marriage.
