Captain America Offers Couch to Homeless Captain Confederacy

WASHINGTON D.C. — Steve Rogers, better known as Captain America, is showing his own brand of Southern hospitality by allowing washed-up villain Captain Confederacy to sleep over at his house.

Captain Confederacy — whose birth name is Roscoe Calhoun — is a little-known adversary of Captain America. Calhoun was recently evicted from his South Carolina trailer of solitude, where he had been quietly hiding out after a major 1865 defeat. For the past 150 years, Captain Confederacy has slowly faded into obscurity, never quite accepting that he’d been beaten.

After being ousted from his refuge in South Carolina, Captain Confederacy found himself with nowhere else to turn — so he packed up the Rebel-mobile (a camouflage 1988 Toyota 4runner with chrome truck nuts) and headed north.

“I offered to let Captain Confederacy crash at my place because honestly, I feel kind of sorry for the guy,” Captain America said. “Sure I don’t agree with what he stands for, and we used to be enemies, but if I refuse to help him just because he’s different from me, that would make me just as bad as he is.”

Captain Confederacy has frequently been the subject of controversy, largely due to his attempts to rebrand himself as a hero and a defender of Southern heritage. These attempts at heroism all came under strong criticism for being focused on defeating only supervillains of color. However, Captain Confederacy did gain a small cult following, largely among angsty teenagers who want to be offensive as a desperate plea for attention.

“Much like his middle school-aged fans, Captain Confederacy has done many awkward things that he would rather forget,” Captain America said. “But we can’t just delete our blunder years off of Facebook and pretend like they didn’t happen. Those struggles and failures caused us to mature and grow into what we are today. We shouldn’t celebrate them, but we can’t simply sweep them under the rug, either.”

Captain America admits sharing his house with a nemesis hasn’t been perfect, mentioning that Captain Confederacy hates Washington D.C. — although this is mostly due to a lack of Waffle Houses..................

What are typical Southern values and how did you want to depict them in the series?

There are no typical Southern values. It's like saying "typical Quebec values." People are people.

Doesn't look like he was trying to glorify 'Southern Values' at all, or to rehabilitate the Stars and Bars, just to play the 'what if' alternate history game that so many authors do.
