"I'm old-school Republican. I want the Government to stay out of everyone's private affairs."

So there is at least one sane republican left- I thought this was an interesting comment at reddit

Sometimes it's embarrassing for me to be the sole non-shrill voice of Conservatism on Reddit, and this is one of those cases. Because the article is correct. There is really no way to deny it.

For example, some of my fellow Christian Republicans (and yes, I'm both) honestly believe that it's their "Right" to prevent other people from having Rights. It's such weird, tortured logic that it nearly makes my head explode.

The argument they make goes something like this: "It's my Right to live in a world without Gay people. So by acknowledging Gay people, you are violating my Rights!" I wish I were kidding about this, but there have been too many literal examples of it recently. We've all seen it and heard it.

They just don't get it. Since other people aren't real to them, they can't get it through their heads that other people have the right to exist. They're so self-centered and wrapped up in themselves that they literally believe that they and they alone have Constitutional Rights.

I'm old-school Republican. I like to mind my own business. I like for other people to mind their own business. I want the Government to stay out of everyone's private affairs. This is what being a Republican used to be about, not narrow-minded oppression. Sometimes I feel like apologizing for being a Republican, but then I remember: today's crop of lunatic half-wits is NOT what the Republican Party ought to be.

How can these people call themselves Christian and be so self centered?

I have no idea, but I think this guy is right, so what can we do about this?

Even paper ballots are counted with diebold accuvote machines.

We have no reason to believe that our elections are fair.

And we know they cheat and lie so why wouldn't we assume they are still cheating and using the media to lie about it?

That's as good an explanation as I've heard, I guess.

Here is another comment about not letting them get away with it....perhaps we have all just been enabling this too long because we are too nice.

Conservative Christians have this mentality of willful ignorance that is just impossible to get past. It's like arguing with a store mannequin. Whenever you try to get specific about recent Republican abuses or policies, it's always, "no, you don't understand and you're just a liberal taking it out of context", and then they launch into over-the-top soliloquies about American Exceptionalism, pulling ones self by your bootstraps and nanny state bullshit.

Scott Walker is a bad manager of his state and his GOP playbook policies are killing their economy? Nope, he's a misunderstood genius and good for Wisconsin AND America.

Climate change? Hogwash, I heard it was snowing somewhere. Try again, Liberal Idiot!

The bullshit is never ending with these regressive people and they're obstructing any and all solutions to real progress. It's like they're a rude, angry 500 lb man who's lodged himself in the main aisle of a movie theater that's on fire and he's yelling for everyone to sit down and ignore the flames and smoke, while we as a nation can't seem to muster the will to tell him to shut up and move aside so we can save everyone.

We just wring our hands and say, "Oh d-d-dear! W-w-what shall we do?!?"

How about we all collectively turn to our nearest Conservative friend or family member and tell them to start producing real evidence to back up their bullshit claims or STFU and get out of the way?

If enough of us put our foot down and do some real triage, we might move forward. I've had enough of coddling this inane mindset, we have real problems to solve and this PC idiocy is like fiddling while Rome burns.

Dear "non-shrill" Republican,

I think you are laboring under a couple of misaprehensions. First, you are apparently unaware of what the actual goal of the Republican party is. It is not to keep the government out of your private business. Nope. It is to facilitate unfettered capitalism through regressive taxes, and the destruction of labor rights and power. That's pretty much it. The Republican party wants to facilitate plutocracy.

Second, they recognize that it is difficult to get people to actually vote for transferring power to rich people, so they have to change the sales pitch. Instead, it's about "economic freedom" and "personal respinsiblity." The idea is to convince viters that it's the guy just below them on the socio-economic ladder that's preventing them frrom climbing to that top rung. And it's about moral failings of those below. So we can say they are morally inferior. That moral inferiority, of course, is tied up in race, sexual orientation, etc.

This is the Republican partyy for the last 40 years. It's just taken all this time for the chickens to come hom to roost... A generation of Republicans has now grown up on Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson, and the lie of supply-side economics. They have been trained to ignore evidence via creationism, and have no become the anti-science party, ignoring climate change because it's economically inconvenient.

If you don't like i'd suggest your reconsider your party.

The goal of the Republican party is to slowly but surely push the country 200 years into the past, when you were only considered a valuable human being if you were a White, Christian, male, landowner.

Perhaps if they could just return to some sort of sanity.

They aren't going away, so our best hope is what is left of sane Republicans somehow reclaim their party.
