If it was a simple accident, the person who obtained it was very careless. To wit,

Personally I think Trump will quit the race, but if he doesn't.... if I was a Democratic Party official, I'd be hammering
on this "Nazi accident" theme.
eta: changed my vote to "accident".

(14,400 posts)I'm more inclined to believe it was plain incompetence. What the hell were they trying to show anyway? My guess is they wanted people to picture Trump as a military leader but even without the Nazi's I thought it looked like soldiers marching on the White House.
No matter what it was just another in the long line of pathetic attempts from Trump.

He was never seriously going to run.

(56,582 posts)It was a Louisiana Artillery Regiment that wore blue uniforms. I heard from Civil War buffs within about 5 seconds of putting it up (it was a fairly high traffic official Army site) and took it down immediately, but I think it's pretty easy to just notice an image you like in your stock collection and dump it into your web page without reading.
In response we started going through all of our other images from over the years, and I found about 10% of the photos were actually of Marines (and that's only the ones where we could tell). The best change request I received:
"Slide 372: that's a Marine. And his fly is down."

(47,558 posts)Also, and I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure that camouflage pattern is the same as I painted on the miniatures of an SS tank crew in my model building days way back in the wayback.

(16,646 posts)I tried enlarging it, but I could only see the eagle, not the swastika. The photo just looks too "modern" for actual WWII. Of course it could be actors or something from a movie.

(16,646 posts)The image turns out to be a staged photo from England no less. About 5years old or so.

(7,412 posts)I heard Trump's name several times today regarding this photo, it's free and effortless viral marketing that causes little serious image damage, if any at all.
