With business mogul-turned-reality show hack-turned presidential candidate Donald Trump dominating headlines as of late, leave it to The New Yorker to show the effect his campaign is having on the rest of the 2016 field. The cover for the July 27, illustrated by Barry Blitt, shows a shirtless Trump belly flopping into a pool of his fellow White House contenders, featuring a panicked Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), former Gov. Jeb Bush, Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ).
Since entering the 2016 race, Trump's hyperbolic style coupled with his derogatory comments, particularly about immigrants, has put the rest of the Republican field on the spot.
Donald Trump has entered the fray of Republican Presidential candidates with all the grace of a bully doing cannonballs and belly flops at the local swimming pool, Blitt said about the cover design. Ill certainly be watching the first televised debate, just around the corner, on August 6th. Trump never fails to provide hours of slack-jawed amazement.

(135,425 posts)It evokes a childhood memory that many have...of course, I think the artist has made him a bit TOO fit (I picture a bit more fishbelly), but he got the hair perfectly!! And the 'onlookers'--that's a touch of genius!

(12,882 posts)it was Baby Ruth. But yeah - that was a great scene. With Donald, he's actually what they THOUGHT the candy bar was - a disgusting, pool-fouling turd.

(35,750 posts)Yes, I agree. The big chest look is the tip-off. Trump always goes around in these suits that make his chest look huge. That's an illusion to throw your eyes off his mid-section, which is getting close to looking like Christie's.
And speaking of, I love the way Christie is portrayed--like a bubble floating around off in the corner.

(43,331 posts)on what effect he will have
Trump is grabbing headlines and generating political energy,
rallying the base
But also exposing the GOP and Tea Party for their core beliefs to
the rest of the country
He may lead them further right, or retreat into oblivion and leave the
field to a more 'moderate' candidate
But he doesn't sound like a loser, he sounds like he's in this for the long
haul ... what else can he do for attention now that he's off TV except
as a candidate?
EIGHT BUCKS for a copy of the New Yorker??? You have to be a real
New Yorker to buy at the newstand!
