Soldier brings gun to recruiting center, accidentally shoots self

http://www.ajc.com/news/news/crime-law/army-recruiter-brings-gun-into-center-accidentally/nm2ff/

A recruiter at the Armed Forces Recruiting Center in Gainesville brought a gun inside the center Friday and accidentally shot himself in the leg, police said.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the unidentified recruiter brought the gun to the Dawsonville Highway center. Soldiers are not allowed to bring weapons inside the center, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“Given recent incidents in Chattanooga we know the public may be concerned about the police presence, there is no need for public alarm, this was an accidental shooting,” Gainesville police said in a statement on the department’s Facebook page.

The recruiter was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center after the incident, which occurred about 11 a.m., according to Channel 2. His condition was not known.

Another victim of Gastons "manual safeties kill people" thought process.

I have both, but then again I've been around handguns 35 years...

Keep your sidearm in the proper holster at all times, and you're good to go. May I also recommend not using a IWB but instead OWB holster.

Safety First I always say.

If that trigger gets snagged on something, the gun goes off. You'd think that some sort of safety mechanism to prevent that from happening would be mandatory

Takes less than a second to rack a round. The leg you save may be your own.

But if they are kept in a pocket or purse without being holstered, anything can get into the trigger guard.

If they are dropped and someone tries to catch it, a finger could get into the trigger guard.

Any kind of fooling around with gun is asking for trouble.

Maybe he didn't have the patience to miss goal a few times, or getting his drivers license suspended was too much of an inconvenience. Hell, he could have simply told the chief recruiter that he brought it in. Now every recruiter in that district will suffer. What a dumb ass!

They will train you on what they want you to use, and tell you when they want you to use it.
