It took a few weeks, but the same group that rescued a feral dog named Charlie/Ricky from New Yorks Highbridge Park this past February, has saved a female dog discovered with a tumor the size of a soccer ball.
They call the dog Dominga. She has been spotted in the park for the last twelve years, so she is considered to be at least that old. Sometime this past March a Bronx school teacher spotted Dominga and the large tumor hanging from her hind leg. After contacting a number of rescue groups, only one Almost Home Animal Rescue and Adoption, Inc. responded. Linda, the founder, with the help of Yuliya Avezbakiyeva (who helped rescue Charlie/Ricky) were able to get a leash around Domingas neck.
A GoFundMe page was set up to help cover the veterinary cost of the surgery, and Dominga underwent the lengthy procedure.
Unforeseen complications occurred and Dominga was in a coma due to brain damage from a stroke post-surgery. Many people would take a decision to end it all immediately, but our group and in particular Linda, the president of Almost Home rescue group decided to give Dominga a chance, Yuliya told Care2.
