California wildfires force more evacuations


LAKE COUNTY, Calif. — Several massive wildfires in California have forced more people to evacuate their homes and the governor to declare a state of emergency.

The Rocky Fire, just north of San Francisco in Lake County, is one of the largest. It has scorched more than 22,500 acres already and it is only 5 percent contained.

People in that area were asked to evacuate their homes Saturday.

An official says there are 24 large wildfires in California right now and 9,000 firefighters battling them.

Governor Jerry Brown declared a state of emergency Saturday, which will bring assistance from the National Guard and other resources outside of the state. ..................(more)
