Walter Palmer owns 'hunting shrine' on 650 acres with more than 50 animals

Time for more light.

Daily Mail:

Walter Palmer, the despised hunter who killed Cecil the lion in Zimbabwe, has a special ‘hunting shrine’ where he is believed to display the heads of more than 50 animals he has killed from across the world.

And neighbours say the building – on a 650-acre plot the dentist owns in rural Minnesota – is where Cecil’s head was destined to be mounted.

The brazen dentist has also kitted out the taxidermy showroom with a drinks bar where he sits and admires his handiwork and has pals over to visit so that he can show off the spoils of his hunting trips.

On show are local elks, deer, moose and bears alongside his collection of exotic African animal kills.

Gruesome: Walter Palmers house can be seen on the right with the old school house on the left which is meant to be full of his mounted Kills

Telegraph:

Meanwhile in Minnesota, where Dr Palmer runs a dental practice which he was last week forced to close down amid the furore surrounding Cecil’s death, pictures have emerged showing a country house the dentist is believed to own.

The wood-clad house, on a 650-acre site, also has an old schoolhouse in which are hung the heads of various exotic animals. Neighbours said Dr Palmer visited at least once a month to shoot deer from a series of hides dotted around the property.

Clay County neighbors of Bloomington dentist Walter Palmer say they have had issues with him

WDAY-TV reporter Catherine Ross traveled to rural Clay County. She didn't find the dentist, but she did find some of his unhappy neighbors.

Walter Palmer owns more than 500 acres in Southeast Clay County. He purchased the land in 2001. His neighbors say immediately the Twin Cities dentist pounded in stakes and disputed property lines.

None of Palmer's neighbors want their identities known. They say the dentist doesn't get along with those bordering his land. Now, many are concerned a torrent of public outrage could make its way here to a sleepy Tansem Township.

.....

It's a quieter scene three-and-a-half hours north, but the tight-knit community is at odds with Palmer, too. Neighbors say he equipped his vast acreage with surveillance cameras and is quick to call the authorities if anyone steps onto his property. Those who've been inside his home say it's full of exotic and local head trophies.

Some question his deer hunting tactics as well. Multiple people say he pays for someone to drive up and down this gravel road herding the animals back onto his land.

Neighbors say they haven't seen any sign of Palmer lately. When I approached the house, a landscaper told me to leave the private property.

Daily Mail

Locals in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, painted a disturbing picture of Palmer – including stories of him walking people off his property at gunpoint, hiding out in camouflage to sabotage other hunters and accusing people of poaching deer on his land.

They also say the hunting fanatic has continuously pushed boundaries with his hunting and uses his wife’s family fortune to buy himself out of trouble.

Last night the father of two, who has shut his dental practice and gone into hiding, was still nowhere to be seen and is thought to be lying low at one of several different luxury properties he and his family own in the area.

Daily Mail:
Bryan Stetz, one of the group of deer-hunters, told how Palmer has kitted his land out with CCTV cameras and private property signs and when he is at the property he monitors it closely for trespassers.
Since his identity was revealed, Palmer has kitted his land out with CCTV cameras and private property signs and when he is at the property he monitors it closely for trespassers

Since his identity was revealed, Palmer has kitted his land out with CCTV cameras and private property signs and when he is at the property he monitors it closely for trespassers

He claimed his brother Keith was once walked off their hunting stand at gunpoint by Palmer and feared the furious dentist might kill him.

Bryan said: ‘It was the last day of hunting season. My brother’s sitting up there and Palmer walked out there with a gun and started hollering at him, just chewing him out.

‘My brother’s scared because he had a gun with him and Palmer doesn’t hunt with guns, he only hunts with bows, so why he had a gun I don’t know. It must have been to intimidate him.

‘He kicked him out of the stand, walked him out all the way to the highway right behind him and said, “You’re trespassing.” Keith said to him “It’s my brother’s land” and he said, “Ignorance is not acceptable.” ’

Odd how 'igonorance is not acceptable' does not apply to poacher Walter Palmer when he wants to go to Zimbabwe to kill an iconic lion that he lured outside its protected sanctuary, at night, with spotlighted bait, and without a proper permit, while claiming he did nothing wrong.

Ship this bastard to Zimbabwe to face charges.

Star-Tribune

If Zimbabwe were to proceed, an extradition request would go something like this:

Zimbabwe sends a package with formal criminal charges to the U.S. Embassy in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe can ask for a provisional arrest warrant.

The U.S. State Department reviews the request. The request gets a second, more detailed review by the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs. If it approves, it ships the request to the U.S. attorney’s office, generally in the state where the person lives, so potentially Minnesota.

If the U.S. attorney files a criminal complaint, Palmer would make a court appearance, then go through bail and extradition hearings. A final ruling would come from the U.S. secretary of state.

Both the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. attorney’s office in Minneapolis declined to comment Friday.

This DOES seem like more than a dentist would make, not even withstanding his wife's fortune on top of that. This is sounding more and more like a huge network of illegal poaching involving wealthy Americans.

The second SOB gynecologist who was just named today as part of Zimbabwe's lion poaching investigation has posted multiple pictures of himself with at least six elephant kills noted. SIX??? This is criminal.

Are these people dealing in illegal ivory as well?

unless they're doing cosmetic dentistry for Hollywood stars they don't get as rich as this guy seems to be, so it's probably either his wife's family money or something illegal. I ran a search in MNCIS and all it shows under civil actions is a quiet title action in Clay County (maybe the thing referenced in one of those newspaper articles). The criminal files show only an illegal u-turn, speeding, and failure to have a fishing license. He's never been busted in Minnesota for anything big - the bear poaching was in WI.

should pay for his crimes by opening a free dental clinic in Africa. That is a very nice sentiment but not punishment enough for me.

If this was a poor person or a middle class person they would already be in the darkest dungeon in the realm. If I was breaking laws I know I would get a horrible hole to live in until my debt was paid. Palmer does not deserve to get off easy. He should hear that metal slamming door and jingle of keys just like everyone else. And, he's a repeat offender. Palmer should not get to see the Sun or eat special food. There are people locked up for medical marijuana doing hard time and we are discussing giving this guy a soft option?

Maybe because he's white and rich, that's where this idea comes from that he shouldn't suffer. If he's such a big stud hunter he should have no problem shaking off ten years in an African prison.

I wonder if it is even possible for people like him to be RE-sensitized to the pain of others, if he ever had any compassion to begin with. Cecil suffered for 40 hours before they found him. The man has no compassion at all.

If I had that kind of acreage and money, I wouldn't be rounding the animals up to kill them. I would have someone patrol it to keep people like him completely off the property. What a heartless asshole.
