$13,500 to Kill Sacred White Buffalo in Texas—Can This Be True?

http://indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2012/03/05/13500-kill-sacred-white-buffalo-texas-can-be-true-101355

American Indians across the internet are flocking to the website of Texas Hunt Lodge today—and not because they're planning a hunting trip. No, they're alarmed by a page on the site dedicated to the White Buffalo Hunt Package, which advertises a chance to kill a white buffalo for $13,500.

White buffaloes are sacred animals to the Lakota Sioux and other Native groups, and there aren't a lot of the creatures around. When one was born last year in Greenville, Texas, it was an occasion for much rejoicing. An article in the British newspaper Daily Mail extensively covered the naming ceremony of Lightning Medicine Cloud. That report said that "Lightning Medicine Cloud, whose name is also a tribute to a white buffalo born in 1933, named Big Medicine, is thought—in Lakota Sioux tradition—to be the third of its kind ever born."

Texas Hunt Lodge allows the opportunity to hunt and harvest the Authentic and Rare White Buffalo. ... There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the White Buffalo, or White Bison, in Texas, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.

We typically let our hunters choose the method of hunting White Buffalo that they prefer. Hunters of White Buffalo can choose the Spot and Stalk method, Bow Hunting, Rifle Hunting, Black Powder, Safari Style Hunting, Handgun, as well as hunting from a Blind. We can accomodate hunters of any age and experience level, as well as hunters which have physical disabilities or may be confined to a wheelchair.

Its just a buffalo, that there are thousands of, and I don't really have a problem with them being hunted in reasonable numbers. If this one is sacred, I think the native Americans should be allowed to buy it and transport it to a safe area.

Cows are sacred to indians, but that won't stop me from having a steak tomorrow. (also, buffalo jerky taste very good if you ever get a chance to try it)

as endangered species.

As the archivist at a museum in NE MN I found a very old picture of several white moose. They were carefully guarded.

But we have lost all sense of protecting our way of life. All we know anymore is kill, kill, kill.

Sure they look nice, but they are not likely to have white offspring. Would it be cool in a zoo. Yes. Maybe a zoo should think about buying it then.

No, the Yellow Northern Cardinal is not another species of cardinal, just a rare genetic mutation of the ordinary Northern Cardinal. See some great images of one in Kentucky, along with a link to a paper than explains the phenomenon (PDF).

Thu Aug 6, 2015, 08:11 AM
Aug 2015

In tigers in particular, the recessive gene that causes white fur is crosslinked to a number of congenital defects.

But people ooh and ahh at the rare "white tiger", not knowing the ones that get thrown away:

http://bigcatrescue.org/abuse-issues/issues/white-tigers/

The ONLY way to produce a tiger or lion with a white coat is through inbreeding brother to sister or father to daughter; generation after generation after generation. The kind of severe inbreeding that is required to produce the mutation of a white coat also causes a number of other defects in these big cats.

They're extremely rare. I don't think the odds are as good as trying to inbreed for red hair in humans.

Edit: From the OP

That report said that "Lightning Medicine Cloud, whose name is also a tribute to a white buffalo born in 1933, named Big Medicine, is thought—in Lakota Sioux tradition—to be the third of its kind ever born."

So if this is one, it's the 4th one known, and you think they'll start popping number 5 immediately?

Spirit Mountain Ranch donated the herd of white buffalo to Sacred World Peace Church and Alliance, and has successfully bred five generations of white buffalo starting from a single white female, almost all with brown fathers. Their herd includes fifteen white buffalo as of June 16, 2012

They are "extremely rare" under conditions of non-selective breeding.

and the OP has misleading text, since that wiki entry lists far more than 3 even born without selective breeding.

And, btw, that wiki entry also explains why the outrage over the supposed poaching of one a few years back died off, since it states it actually died of a bacterial infection.

Years ago, one of my kids had a school assignment on "endangered animals" and was assigned "white tigers". He's a skeptical sort, more so than I am, and got pretty exercised over the whole "white tiger" business by the time it was done.

Clearly, it appears there is just as much nonsense and fuckery about "white buffalo".

True fact, a relative of mine thought the zebras in Tijuana were really zebras:

Ah yes, the rare harness-broken zebras of Mexico. Considered sacred for decades in Tijuana...

Tijuana, otherwise known as the "City of Moral Rectitude"?

The other hat choices appear to be a reference to tequila, and another to being drunk.

But, yes, amid the splendor of cheap prescription drugs sold without a prescription, and men beckoning others into strip joints operating as prostitution clearinghouses, it appears that someone may not have been adequately safeguarding morality here!

I agree "Lolita" is clearly legible on her hat next to the poorly-draped loinclothes of the otherwise naked men in the backdrop.

From what I can tell, they're selling hunts for ranch raised, specifically bred "cattle" for upwards to 15K each. Wow. That's pretty messed up and says as much about them as it does about the fools who pay that to go kill a ranch raised buffalo. smdh. Some people are so weird, and not in a good way.

The first link in my previous post advertises a "100% Success Guarantee."

It's like they're saying, because we know you suck, so we'll feed the fellow in the usual spot, at the usual time, and all you have to do is sit there and wait for him to show up for his dinner. Then you can pretend to your friends how you're such a great hunter for killing what is basically a domestic animal.

It was a bird hunt. Pheasants and chuckar partridge raised in a chicken coop and placed around an 80 acre farm the morning of the "hunt". Before the hunt we had to practice of coarse. We stood on a deck..there were around 10 of us, 8 of them were insurance company executives who hunt twice a year...then my dad and I who used to subsistence hunt...I digress...we are standing on the deck, there is a trap thrower under the deck...the "guide" yelled "pull" and a live pigeon came out....I couldn't believe my eyes...yep, they loaded live pigeons into a tube mounted on a trap and threw them for us to shoot....after this I declined several invitations to go with them again....

The sacred white buffalos are not albinos. They have dark eyes and skin. Lightning Medicine Cloud, Miracle and others have been born on working ranches, not game farms, and have been DNA tested to determine that they are not buffalo/domestic cattle hybrids.

What these assholes are advertising are very probably buffalo/domestic crosses. Not that that makes them any less assholes, but if so, the victims are not sacred to Native Americans.
