Love At First Sight dog rescue by Allison Philadelphia, PA

My boyfriend and I had been together for a few years at the time. My birthday was approaching and as a present he agreed we were finally ready for a dog. I grew up with dogs and felt that a house wasn't complete without a dog. We agreed instantly that we would rescue, so we headed to the local shelters. We went to a few and saw a lot of great dogs, but none that felt completely right. That is when we tried a local SPCA, we knew as soon as we saw him. He was very skinny and looked very overwhelmed being at the shelter. The staff told us he came from a high kill shelter in North Carolina. They also told us he was a 1-2 yr old Golden Retriever Lab mix.

His name was Nemo, we decided it suited him and kept it. He was so well behaved and lovable. We did know someone had hit him before though, whenever someone raised their arm he would lay in a submissive pose. As time went by we found out he was a Vizsla, Cocker Spaniel, Yorkie, Coonhound Mutt(No Lab or Golden) through a genetic test. We quickly realized he was a very high strung and anxious, we understood why he was in the shelter. We learned every time there is a thunderstorm we have to cover him with blankets and hold him. But we didn't care we loved him, he loved us and we were all family. He completed our household and we can't imagine life with out him. He is very happy, loves walks, sitting on our lap(must be from the yorkie part) and barking at shadows. He even has a Cocker Spaniel sister now named Annabelle who he loves!

My rescue came from a Georgia high kill shelter and she was supposed to be white German Shepherd which is why
a GS rescue group from South Carolina went to get her. Haven't had her tested, but the rescue group told me
she was Golden Retriever and American Eskimo...she definitely has the Eskie face. And she could care less about
thunderstorms!

Love these stories OS!

I have a pitbull mix sitting at my feet right now. She is so sweet and lovable. She was my companion and would lay beside me in the bed when I was sick from chemo treatments. I have had many rescue dogs over the years and all gave back to me many times over with their love and companionship.
