(43,890 posts)Dunning, a professor of psychology at Cornell, worries about because, according to his research, most incompetent people do not know they are incompetent.
On the contrary. People who do things badly, Dunning has found in studies conducted with a graduate student, Justin Kruger, are usually supremely confident of their abilities -- more confident, in fact, than people who do things well.
(snip)
One reason that the ignorant also tend to be the blissfully self-assured, the researchers believe, is that the skills required for competence often are the same skills necessary to recognize competence.
"Not only do they reach erroneous conclusions and make unfortunate choices, but their incompetence robs them of the ability to realize it," wrote Kruger, now an assistant professor at the University of Illinois, and Dunning.

(53,661 posts)Democrats self-reflect and find fault with their actions while trying to negotiate for all by principle in the face of an ever confident majority of troglodytes who are willing to use the power of demagoguery.
Simplistic, B&W, 'because I believe so' solutions will discriminate and dismiss the rights of many people.
Democrats leave the land of dreams and popularity in the face of hard reality. They are like the kitchen help, unappreciated until they quit cooking complex recipes that people enjoy the taste of and the people will have their revenge, but with nothing to eat.
Democrats know that their own voting block is easily swayed. It's a paralyzing situation to be aware of oneself at times. So their discussions have be crafted to not offend their voters. They are forced to live in two worlds at the same time. While cognizant of the political reality they face in Washington, they must face some voters as ignorant as teabaggers and completely brainwashed by media.

(6,927 posts)I find it hard to believe even in the climate of assholery and self-righteousness and holier than thou pompousness that is the Republican party that he believes this is appropriate behavior.
He cannot be serious that this is the way to appeal to the public though unfortunately there are people who like and support him.
I am not a fan of violence but if someone would just punch him in the face and mess up his hair he would be distracted from his goal.
