The White House lit into Sen. Chuck Schumer on Friday for his decision to vote no on the Iran deal and suggested that hes put his clear path to be the next Democratic leader in doubt, Politico reports.
And a person familiar with Schumers decision said the senators allies blame the White House for leaking news from a private call Schumer made to President Barack Obama on Thursday afternoon and breaking a direct request the senator made to the president to give him until Friday to put word out about his decision. The person also noted, with more than a little acidity, that Obama was the only person Schumer told of his decision before the news started to leak out.

(135,425 posts)Ya gotta consider the source.
Other reports say that the whips have the numbers, and worst case, pledges to switch votes if the thing comes back on a veto so that Obama can move forward.
POLITICO wants to weaken the future Democratic Leader in the Senate, and they're trying to do it with rumor.

Does he represent New York and the US or a foreign country that continually is trying to get us into Middle
East wars against their enemies?

(135,425 posts)Harry Reid is a pro-lifer, which is in complete opposition to the Democratic Party platform, and he's managed to do good and do well. He doesn't flog his POV because he knows better.
It's sometimes handy to have someone who has a visible affiliation with the opposition on at least one aspect, because it makes it easier for them to negotiate other issues with them.

(36,418 posts)Sure, Chuck.
Why should the President hold it under his hat, until the moment was right for you to announce with maximum impact to scuttle the deal?

(52,162 posts)is the timing of his decision. If the timing wasn't his but theirs then that is a pretty relevant point.

(13,933 posts)This story annoys me. Holding aside the fact that everyone knew Schumer was going to vote against the agreement, the phrase "breaking a direct request" is, I believe, an attempt to falsely imply a promise.

(12,704 posts)a promise was made when in fact only a request was was made.
just trying to create a controversy, they do shit like this all the time.
