Angelo State Football Player Killed By Police

http://deadspin.com/angelo-state-football-player-killed-by-police-1722870378

A security company had called 911 after observing the suspect on a security camera outside the business.

Rodriguez said police arrived to find that Taylor had used a vehicle to crash through glass in the front of the showroom.

“The officers went and confronted him. There was an altercation. An officer discharged his weapon and struck the suspect,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez alleges that security footage shows the unarmed Taylor perpetrating “criminal activity” in the lot. However, there is no footage of either the confrontation or the shooting of Taylor. The Arlington police are in the process of rolling out a body camera program for officers, but nobody is wearing them yet. Brad Miller, the officer who shot Taylor, was a trainee who has been on the force for less than a year, and has been placed on administrative leave.

Why on earth would he do that? Was he being chased by police? Wouldn't surprise me. Perhaps police need a ban on guns.

They don't always use the same sources, at least not obviously so.

He appears to have already inside the dealership showroom by the time the police arrived. So probably not chased by police. Perhaps he heard them coming, but then he'd be going in the wrong direction.

He had a misdemeanor charge for possession or use from last winter, but was off probation. No tox info, but the misdemeanor charge (coupled with Friday night) makes one a bit suspicious.

No video inside the dealership, just outside, and that's not yet released.

No word what he was doing outside. Or why he decided to go inside. But if somebody drives an SUV into a showroom through the glass I wouldn't expect him to be sitting there, playing a flute, grinning and waving hello to the police when they showed up. Beyond that, what happened is currently undetermined.

No confirmation of the altercation or details--although you'd think the security guard might be a witness to at least part of it.

On edit: The reports don't say "security guard," but security company. So it may have been a remote feed that prompted the call without a guard physical on-premises. If so, no witness there.

It can be "messy" with these situations until the entire situation is ironed out. I unfortunately have become so anti police lately that it has become difficult to be unbiased with them. I will continue to try though. I am really interested in seeing this whole story.

There are many rows of vehicles before the building itself. They said there's video of him damaging cars in the lot.

I used to work at a car dealership and there wasn't constant video surveillance inside the dealership. Well when I started at the dealership there was no video surveillance. They eventually added some, but it would rotate cameras and didn't capture places like waiting rooms at all. So, it could be very likely they don't have video of the incident inside the dealership. Also, the dealer I worked for didn't have security guards either, but did have an alarm system.
