I had a call today from the Joce Pritchett, D candidate for State Auditor in Mississippi...

apparently the first openly gay candidate running Statewide. Mississippi is, strangely enough, a State I don't have a lot of experience with. Does anyone know what the prospects are?

but I'd say that the chances are slim. The current state auditor is Stacey Pickering, a Republican from the area around Laurel. He's running for his second term now, and he has a reputation for keeping public officials honest. I can't believe I just said that about a Republican. Anyway, I don't think Pritchett' s sexuality will be an issue. I went to high school with Pickering for a few years, and I don't think he's particularly bigoted, at least by Mississippi standards. He will probably win with about 75 percent of the vote.
