Toledo police followed the suspects from a car into a vacant home Wednesday evening. Police Chief George Kral says the car's driver shot the dog and was hit by return fire from an officer who then left the home.
The Blade newspaper (http://bit.ly/1L83udp ) reports a standoff ensued and the passenger from the car was eventually arrested. The second suspect died inside the home.
Authorities didn't immediately identify the suspects.
Police lined up with their hands over their hearts in tribute as workers wheeled away the body of the dog, a German Shepherd named Falco.

(9,951 posts)He murdered a police officer, the other cops didn't open fire until after this waste of oxygen killed one of their own.
Get a fucking grip on reality.

(1,958 posts)The suspect shot at the cops. They returned fire. It really is that simple. If this guy was willing to shoot at cops, do you really believe he was not willing to shoot at someone else? This as not about a stolen car. It appears you think it is ok for for people to steal cars.

Police Dog, Suspect Dead After Chase, Standoff in Ohio
TOLEDO, Ohio Aug 13, 2015, 6:22 PM ET
Associated Press
Authorities say a police dog chasing two suspected car thieves was fatally shot, and one suspect was found dead after a standoff in Ohio.
Toledo police followed the suspects from a car into a vacant home Wednesday evening. Police Chief George Kral says the dog went into the crawl space where the suspect was hiding. The suspect, 27-year-old Reginald Marshall, killed the dog and was hit by return fire from an officer.
The Blade newspaper ( http://bit.ly/1L83udp ) reports the other suspect was eventually arrested. Police say it wasn't clear whether Marshall, who was wanted on a murder warrant, died from police gunfire or self-inflicted wounds.
Police lined up with their hands over their hearts in tribute as workers wheeled away the body of the German Shepherd, named Falco.

The dog was murdered; the guy with the gun was shot in self-defense (or possibly suicide, lack of information).

(4,462 posts)He was faithfully doing his job. The dead guy, on the other hand, killed the dog as he was trying to escape a lawful arrest after committing a serious felony, and was subsequently killed when the police legally and properly defended themselves.
Are you really surprised at why the dog might get top billing in this story, or are just unsympathetic to work animals and particularly empathetic to armed and violent car thieves?

(35,350 posts)He and another stole a car, crashed into another, went into a building, and fired a gun.
No name. No information about the dead man (assuming it was a 'he', but that's the way the odds say to go). Not much else.
Leave out the dog and the reports about the event itself and you don't really have a story about an event that apparently was remarkable, at least in that neighborhood.
Sorry it's not the story you'd want the person to have written.
