Jeb Bush leaves door open for use of torture by government

Jeb Bush leaves door open for use of torture by government

DAVENPORT, Iowa (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush on Thursday declined to rule out resuming the use of torture under some circumstances by the U.S. government.

"I don't want to make a definitive, blanket kind of statement," Bush told an audience of Iowa Republicans, when asked whether he would keep in place or repeal President Barack Obama's executive order banning so-called enhanced interrogation techniques by the CIA.

"When you are president your words matter," he said.

The former Florida governor said that in general, he believes torture is inappropriate, and that he was glad his brother, former President George W. Bush, largely ended the CIA's use of the techniques before he left office. The CIA used waterboarding, slapping, nudity, sleep deprivation, humiliation and other methods to coerce al-Qaida detainees — methods the military would be prohibited from using on prisoners of war.

Not a dime's bit of difference between any of them. Watch, they'll be salivating while they speak of torture and the death penalty and war.

seem to believe in the divine right of kings. Clearly there are strains of megalomania, sadism and delusions of grandeur at work. Combine that with the bone-deep stupidity of HW's idiot sons and its a recipe for disaster.

This is NOT someone that should be in charge of anything!

My country has sunk low enough with his daddy and brother in charge!

Please we can't go lower and have Jeb as president!!!!!!!

His brother got away with it. No reason to believe anything would happen to JEB either.

He's damn right that the President's words matter. Candidates' words matter, too. The right words for either should be 'I will never authorize torture and would direct the Justice Department to vigorously prosecute anyone who claims to act on behalf on the United States of America and engages in torture.'

Trade World, Liberty. He cares absolutely nothing about the Life and Pursuit of Happiness of the American people.

Is international humanitarian law up to the job of protecting the people affected by modern-day armed conflicts? This film looks at the poor security conditions frequently confronting the civilian population, the fact that people often have to flee their homes, hostage-taking, the dangers posed by cluster munitions, and the work of preventing and punishing war crimes. It tells us the basic rules of the law and reminds us that respecting them is everyone's responsibility.

I'd think he'd want to run as far away from his brother's image as possible. Next he'll want to reopen abu ghraib prison and get some butt pyramids going and adopt this as a campaign icon.
