It seems that Apple is retail's Botox.
The minute an Apple store appears in a shopping mall -- or, say, a vast famous New York railway station -- somehow the area becomes prettier and more devastatingly young.
The Next Web reports that Apple is continually offered ludicrously favorable incentives just to be the next shiny dance partner for a city or a shopping mall.
Apparently, authorities in Grand Central Terminal and Salt Lake City didn't bother with annoying complexities as some (or any) rent or share of profit in order to encourage Cupertino to erect a little more glass, white and silver in their vicinities.
ABC News suggests that the Utah city offered 5 years free rent.

(3,163 posts)So that they can buy products made entirely in foreign countries, by an American company which provides as few American jobs as it possibly can and which makes profits more than ten times larger than the despised and hated oil companies.
Is this a great country, or what?

(146,317 posts)Every place that sells high-tech stuff is doing the same thing, actually.
But, here's the thing: If an Apple store opens in a shopping area, consumer traffic in that area increases. Apple stores have employees. Apple stores attract customers in large numbers. What happens then, do you suppose?
Customers attract businesses. Businesses hire employees. The coffee shop, restaurants, and other shops move in to be near the Apple store and its customers, who obviously have enough money to spend to be looking at Apple products. The Apple store customers see the other stores and stop in for an espresso or some lunch, or maybe they buy a new pair of jeans or some other clothes. Employees get paid. Goods are sold.
If you insist that your computers, tablets, and cell phones be made in this country, then you'll look a long time to find them. Places want Apple stores because Apple stores create business for other stores and cash flow for the economy. Want US-made computers and high-tech? Start a company and make that stuff. Open your own stores. Take advantage of the demand.
