here we go again, SSDi Attacks in social media [rant]

once again the topic of social security and ssdi has come up somewhere on the web. this time on 9news Denver and as expected i saw the customary christian conservative moralistic responses that have no basis in actual reality beyond stereo typical fox boobs, micheal savage, rush limbaugh responses.

for some reason they just are incapable or unwilling to see the logic of their position. i keep thinking of the saying "careful what you wish for you might just get it" they all think of the pre new deal generation as some great society that was better off and in reality i don't think myself or anyone in this day and age could survive the economic and social conditions that were present back then during the turn of the century and pre new deal if we were suddenly finding ourselves thrust back into those conditons in a short amount of time and those effects and conditions would only be amplified 100 fold because we now have a vastly larger population then was present back then.

for all the complaining and stereotyping many do about those receiving entitlements they keep forgetting about all the industry that has been built up around entitlement spending and all the spin off industries (mainly healthcare) that were created to supply those primary industries and since healthcare field is extremely large and generally well paying field you need to remember all the spending that is done by those who are employed in that field.

now as i have previously stated on very many occasions, medicare and medicaid just by themselves prop up the healthcare industry some 65% and conservative estimates put private sector job losses at over 2 million if the republican party suddenly got their way and eliminated medicare and block granted medicaid.

and these figures only include those two programs this isn't considering deep cuts or elimination of other entitlements such as unemployment, workers comp, food stamps, section 8, etc.

what we need to be concentrating on is getting single payer healthcare and bringing back full time jobs that pay a living wage to this country, offer free secondary education and training to qualified person, crack down on employers who use undocumented workers and employers who abuse the H1B visa program. we need to make it less hostile for the disabled to go back to full time employment.

in other words we need to set up conditions in the us job market that enabled the disabled who are capable of it to voluntarily leave the ssdi and welfare rolls versus forcefully pushing them off the rolls by cutting or eliminating programs.

it is the only way to cut entitlement spending, increase tax revenues, while simultaneously adding economic activity to replace the loss of entitlement spending thus keeping the economy afloat. so next time you want to complain and stereotype someone who is receiving government assistance via entitlements think about this, do you want your job to be one of the 2 million plus private sector jobs that gets axed due to all that lost economic activity? think your taxes are suddenly going to decrease when entitlement spending is cut? just some things to think about next time you complain and stereotype people.
