Sheriff's deputy responding to call gets killed by suspect in Nevada

CARSON CITY, NV - Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong says a sheriff's deputy was killed in the line of duty Saturday morning.

Shortly after 2AM August 15, 2015, deputies were responding to the report of a domestic battery at the 4100 block of Montez Drive in east Carson City. When deputies arrived, a man walked out of the house and opened fire. He shot and killed one officer.

More deputies were called to the scene and they were able to secure the home and the three children and one adult who were inside.

Furlong says the shooter was found dead on scene.

Our agencies policy was never to responded to a domestic until you had two cars. And that's a hard one for a small agency that in theory had just 5 cars with one deputy each per shift to cover an entire county. Once we got the grant for a DV task force two of us were on it and one of us tried to always be on every evening/weekend/holiday to help.

You have emotions running high and violence already in the mix and multiple people there so you had to have at least two officers. The show of strength kept a lot of things from ever happening and two officers could much better seperate the people and start getting stories.

No agency should be sending a single officer to a domestic. Ever.

In this one trailer park he was attacked by the victim.
She had a big bruise developing over one eye, but when the guy who slugged her was getting busted, she attacked the cops.

Yes. Alcohol was a factor too.
