But for many racial minorities, that type of racism doesn't matter as much anymore, some scholars say. They talk more about the racism uncovered in the knife fight photos -- it doesn't wear a hood, but it causes unsuspecting people to see the world through a racially biased lens.
It's what one Duke University sociologist calls "racism without racists." Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, who's written a book by that title, says it's a new way of maintaining white domination in places like Ferguson.
"The main problem nowadays is not the folks with the hoods, but the folks dressed in suits," says Bonilla-Silva.
"The more we assume that the problem of racism is limited to the Klan, the birthers, the tea party or to the Republican Party, the less we understand that racial domination is a collective process and we are all in this game."

As far as your, uh, comment, did you intend to protect the the black kid who goes out into a hostile street to be murdered by one of his or her neighbors just because of the the color of their skin, or do you care more for your snark than their life?
Let me get specific - any teacher who won't stand with others and oppose these fascist bastards. Their names are on their personnel records, I am sure. Whether they teach it or allow it to be taught in the school they work in. That includes the parents, btw, and most anyone else who lets this proceed and anyone who wouldn't support people fighting this. Kinda like Nazi Germany, however, the problem has been allowed to get out of hand.
Seems an appropriate analogy, however. ANY excuse a person uses to promote this garbage makes them no better than the Germans in the towns near the NAzi's POW facilities. I remember my neighbor laughing at what the American soldiers did to some of them after Hitler was killed. One should be careful about what they participate in, because the end of fascism often isn't pretty, even for people who were just so convinced they were on the right side.
They are on the other side of anything I do, and I intend to keep it that way.

(10,495 posts)Neither one is a racist so yes, I am offended by your remarks. Generalizing negatively about a group of people is similar to racism, it's called prejudice. Not all Texas teachers are racists.
Before you start on me, I am white and my wife is black. I care about all people and oppose injustice to anyone!

(15,882 posts)teaching them that black lives don't matter as much as they used to. You are free to think what you want, but perhaps if more people like you were less comfortable with it, things might change.
Your living arrangements, as much as you think it important to share, are none of my business, and don't remove your privilege. But you know that.
More important, perhaps...
I freed a thousand slaves I could have freed a thousand more if only they knew they were slaves.

So your outlook doesn't surprise, nor interest, me.
If you choose to be offended, being an attorney, you know that is up to you, not me. So be all you can be, eh?
bye.

(10,495 posts)of law enforcement and our corrupt criminal justice system, I certainly do. It is untenable! I merely pointed out that not all Texas teachers are racists. The fact that I love and married a black woman is some evidence of where I am coming from when I say that I am not racist. We agree on more than you would think, just don't be so quick to judge.
Our country has been going further down a very dark road. The PTB have used race as a way to divide us and distract us from the fact that they control our government, banking and media and are the root cause to most of our problems. They have used the criminal justice system to disenfranchise the poor and minorities, especially the black community. It is beyond the point of being fixed with a few new laws or a tweak here and there. It needs to be totally scrapped and done over! The rich and even middle class whites get off completely or with a hand slap, while the poor and minority communities suffer outlandish harassment, enforcement, and punishment.
I don't have to be black myself to be offended by it. My wife and I are registering black voters in our area and helping them to be able to comply with the new Texas voter I.D. requirements. We are trying to recruit candidates for office that will work to make a positive difference instead to the Teapublicans that get elected where we are.
