(15,257 posts)We don't have an exemplary example of human rights. Federal prisons, state institutions (meaning corporate run), local jails (money-making and sadist rewarding).
Our record of shooting first, exonerating, and then asking questions is on a (sub)par with many countries we enjoy bashing. Our use of solitary confinement (used to be called the pit in olden times) is way beyond the pale. Today there are articles about how we put 14 yo people into the pit and expect them to be rehabilitated when they come out.
Please, someone. Tell me some great examples about how this great country, the beacon to others looking for freedom, are better than any of the other "old european" or other civilized countries. If you have some examples, please show how they apply to all of our population, not just the privileged, rich, white.
