Idaho replaces mile marker 420 with 419.9 in attempt to thwart stoners

Associated Press in Boise
Tuesday 18 August 2015 21.19 BST

If you’re looking for milepost 420, you won’t find it in Idaho.

Idaho transportation officials say the mile marker has been replaced with 419.9 signs to curb thieves eager to own a number associated with marijuana enthusiasts.

Turns out, Idaho isn’t alone in this problem. States like Washington and Colorado have also replaced 420 signs with 419.9 after consistently having to replace them after thefts by supposed sticky-fingered stoners.

Adam Rush of the Idaho transportation department says officials have replaced the old sign along US Highway 95 with “MILE 419.9” just south of Coeur d’Alene.

Who wants to go with me to steal that one? It's a collector's item for sure.

They would meet at 4:20 and smoke weed, and eventually started using the word 420 as a code word for pot.

The band 'Greatful Dead' moved into town and heard the code word, and liked it, and they were the ones that spread it nationwide.

I guess the good news is most states don't have a mile marker 420 so its not a problem for most states.

I remember reading a story recently where the town of Fucking Australia wanted to change their name, and they had installed theft resistant signs. In the end, the name was good for tourism, so they decided to keep it.

This is a commonly stolen sign about 10 miles from me.

why not manufacturer, market and sell them.

The profits could be used for road repairs ???

Lots of teenagers like STOP signs Street signs etc. for their rooms.

I would just assume there are a lot of dumb kids who don't want to pay for it, or maybe think stealing it is half the fun.
