Honolulu will build a 4 foot high fence to stop homeless

KALIHI, OAHU (HawaiiNewsNow) -
Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced Wednesday morning that a one-mile fence will be constructed along the Kapalama Canal from Nimitz Highway to King Street on both sides of the waterway.

The fence will be four feet high and cost $240,000.

City officials say it should be completed by the end of the year.

Caldwell on Wednesday also signed Bill 46, which bans camping and setting up tents on the banks of the City's waterways.

1. Are the homeless in Hawaii really short?

Are they hobbits? Smurfs?

One of my dogs is only 15 or 16 inches tall, but I've seen her go over a 42 inch high fence. If she was a few inches taller, she could probably do a 4ft fence...

4. This reminds me of Jack London's 1901 People of the Abyss

At that time, Britain had a pretty pure capitalist system. Not many safety nets. Large homeless population.

So, instead of helping the homeless, they set up day labor places and kitchens where people could buy really cheap non-nutritious soup, and to cap it off, they made it illegal for the homeless to sleep in parks at night. So, they hired a bunch of cops to go around and roust homeless people who were trying to sleep after doing a 10-12 hour heavy labor day with only one meal of soup and a little bread.

Then, during the day when the people would drop from exhaustion, the middle class British would laugh and point at the lazy homeless people.

Sometimes I wonder if our species would be better off extinct. All other species on the earth would be.
