Sen. Thompson files bill to ban Confederate flags from public buildings (FL)

TALLAHASSEE Sen. Geraldine Thompson, D-Orlando, filed a bill Wednesday that would ban all Confederate flags and emblems from state and local government buildings.
Thompson said she filed the measure in part because of the recent controversy in Walton County. Commissioners in the Panhandle county recently voted to replace the Confederate battle flag with a different Confederate flag. Tallahassee elected officials have urged local chambers of commerce to not conduct meetings there.
If its a Confederate flag they would be required to remove it, said Thompson, who recently announced her bid for Congress in District 10. <The Confederate flag> resurfaced in the '60s as a symbol of resistance to the civil-rights movement.
The bill, however, would not apply to statues such as the Confederate memorial at Orlandos Lake Eola Park ...
