NBC5: Plano investigating city employees after e-mail addresses found in hacked Ashley Madison data

And.....it starts

The city of Plano said it is investigating at least two employees after their city email addresses appeared on a list linked to a website for cheaters.

The information came to light after hackers posted millions of account holders' email addresses they claimed to have stolen from AshleyMadison.com, the matchmaking website geared toward men and women who want to cheat on their spouses.

If not then the city can take it and shove it up their tight asses.

If they are not holding public office or not causing the city any embarrassment, then it should be between them and their significant other.

but they were using a city email address and that's a problem. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. You shouldn't be using an employers email address for personal use, especially for something like this. Get a gmail address.

if the employee was using an official city account to sign up. Otherwise, you are correct.

"The city’s policy allows personal use of the city's email accounts if it does not interfere with employees' work responsibilities or productivity. However, the use must be proper and in compliance with the parameters outlined in the policy," said city of Plano Human Resources Director Shanté R. Akafia. "We find it unfortunate that an employee of the city of Plano allegedly elected to use an official work email account for an inappropriate personal purpose such as this. Therefore, we have begun the process of investigating this matter."

because I have no doubt the city would find a LOT more "improper use" if they checked everybody's accounts...

There are going to be many more of these cases coming out.

Some big names probably will be exposed — and if we can go by recent history there will be many from party of the self righteous, family values persuasion.

That's because Ashley Madison actually discloses in its terms of agreement that some of its "Ashley's Angel's" profiles may be "fictitious." Here's what the terms say about "Ashley's Angels:"

The purpose of our Ashley’s AngelsTM is to provide entertainment, to allow you to explore our Services and to promote greater participation in our Services. Ashley’s AngelsTM attempt to simulate communications with real members to encourage more conversation and interaction with users. We also use Ashley’s AngelsTM to monitor user communications and use of our Service to measure compliance with the Terms. Further, we may use Ashley’s AngelsTM in connection with our market research to enable us to analyze user preferences, trends, patterns and information about our customer base. Ashley’s AngelsTM are not intended to resemble or mimic any actual persons.

These user terms could enable Ashley Madison to successfully argue that it was being upfront about being just "a fantasy" and "a fiction," Goldman told us. If users are just paying for the fantasy, then the site could argue they're "getting exactly what they're paying for," Goldman said.

A new opportunity for someone else. If they are dumb enough to use their work email to sign up with such a service are they really competent and trustworthy enough to have a job with an email account in the first place?

How long does it take to sign up for a free dummy email account? Anyone using a work email for something like this deserves to get fired for being incompetent.

They are losing their marriage and job because they are unworthy of trust. Those affected have no one to blame but themselves. The best thing they can do now is to admit they screwed up, they have some character issues, and work to fix themselves and their life.

Businessmen, state and local government officials, university professors. Somebody paid for one account with a Baton Rouge police union credit card. It's blowing up a local message board. If this is being replicated all over the country, well, I can't imagine.
