School Official:The Only Thing Women Know Is ‘Laying On Your Back With Your Legs In The Air Splayed'

The Onion? Uh, nope.

http://www.addictinginfo.org/2015/08/19/school-official-the-only-thing-women-know-is-laying-on-your-back-with-your-legs-in-the-air-splayed-video/

Members of the Perry County District school board, located in Perryville, Missouri, voted 4-3 in favor of asking for fellow board member, Mark Gremaud’s resignation.

The vote came about as the result of Gremaud’s comments, directed toward a female board member, Kathy Carron, during an earlier school board meeting.

“Kathy, you are just a woman, the only thing you know is laying on your back with your legs in the air splayed.”

According to KFVS, dozens of parents and teachers attended the special board meeting, many of them to show support for Gremaud.

I would say back then it was equal parts funny and shocking, although as to the humor I'm sure there was a bit of an "Archie Bunker" aspect to it; as I'm sure some people did laugh just because he called a woman a slut and not because it was lampooning a pompous ass.

At 16 you probably didn't get the joke exactly (no offense) but basically they would argue and she would clean his clock and that was the only "comeback" he could come up with.

21. It was a parody of a "60 Minutes" segment.
Thu Aug 20, 2015, 06:20 PM
Aug 2015

For the younger people:

Sixty Minutes, the CBS show, had a 2 minute argument segment called "Point/Counterpoint". It featured James Kilpatrick arguing with Nicholas von Hoffman, and later, Shana Alexander. Kilpatrick had the pompous air of a know-it-all, like William F. Buckley, but with a gruff tone. Dan Aykroyd's bark at Jane Curtin: "Jane, you ignorant slut" was a parody of that.

It was "mansplaining" before the word existed. Basically, an ad hominem (or ad feminem) attack.

From Wikipedia:
His obituary in The Washington Post (August 17, 2010) noted: "His stature as a writer, lecturer and commentator on public-affairs shows led to his appearances on the 60 Minutes segment "Point/Counterpoint" in the 1970s. On the program, Mr. Kilpatrick debated such policy issues as family planning and the Vietnam War against liberal authors Nicholas von Hoffman and later Shana Alexander.[citation needed]

"If ever I heard an oversimplified fairy tale of the last years in Vietnam, I just heard one from you," Mr. Kilpatrick said in one exchange. They peppered their remarks with "Oh, come on, Jack" and "Now see here, Shana". Later years saw even-more combative talk shows, including Crossfire.

The debates Kilpatrick had with Alexander were so prominent in American culture that they were famously satirized on Saturday Night Live, with Jane Curtin taking Alexander's role on "Weekend Update" opposite Dan Aykroyd's version of Kilpatrick – "Jane, you ignorant slut."[8] ENDQUOTE

Thu Aug 20, 2015, 09:18 PM
Aug 2015

Jane Curtin was the only cast member who was married and who didn't take part in all the hard partying and drug use that the rest of the case indulged in.

She was so definitely NOT an "ignorant slut," and that added an in-joke dimension to the parody of "Point/Counterpoint."

It was not "Dan Akroyd" saying that. It was the character portrayed by Dan Akryod saying that. Of course it is a loathsome thing to say. The point was that his character was loathsome.

He portrayed a lot of hideous character types.

There's nothing funny about selling hazardous toys to children, so why is this a 'comedy sketch':

It would not be funny to sell a bag of broken glass as a toy to children. His character itself is the object of ridicule.
