(23,962 posts)here's my reasoning
the actual primary campaign doesn't really get underway for 4 months - this is all super-preliminary
since the events that happen now have little-to-no bearing on the actual primary elections, other than weeding out some of the more forgettable candidates from the overcrowded GOP clown bus, it is fitting that the media latch onto a candidate who is probably only tangentially related to the outcome, aka Trump.
it helps the media that he's got massive name recognition and reality show chops.
it helps us that the shit he says is patently outrageous and he's roping the "mainstream" GOP candidates into taking stances on topics so ludicrous they would clearly prefer to avoid such subjects entirely -- and that's saying something.
c'mon, do you think Jeb really wants to be taking positions on "anchor babies" and repealing the 14th amendment? hell no!
the media thinks it's doing the work requested by its corporate megamasters. instead, it's playing a "yooge" role in permanently discrediting the Republicans and forever tarnishing their brand as a party for rich racists and phenomenal assholes.
