Donald Trump: Made In America by Americans

by Carol Morgan

Former President Jimmy Carter announced in a press conference on Thursday that he has brain cancer. That same day, he received the first in a series of radiation treatments and a mere forty-eight hours later, he was teaching two Sunday School classes at Maranatha Baptist Church in Plains to an overflow crowd.

I’m not surprised because that’s the kind of man that James Earl Carter is; he exemplifies the best of America.

President Carter was a much better President than people or historians give him credit. During his term in office, America never fired a shot in war or invaded a foreign country, he fought bureaucracy and corruption and sought peace through mediation, not the threat of war.

Even Carter’s critics will agree that he’s the most decent, moral, ethical and principled POTUS who's ever held the office. His most acclaimed accomplishments came after his presidency; cutting ties with the Southern Baptist Convention for their stance against women, supervising international elections, conducting diplomacy with other nations to resolve crises and the near-eradication of the guinea worm in Africa which was almost 100% fatal before his efforts. He’s been married to the same woman for 69 years and Rosalyn’s helped with his life’s work at Emory, the Carter Center, and their foundation.

Out of spite and smallness of character, his successor deliberately delayed the release of the Iran hostages by 20 minutes after he was sworn in, so the release wouldn’t take place on Carter's watch.

That’s no surprise, because President Brylcreem wasn't really a President. He was an actor playing the role of an elder statesmen in a 1953 Cold War epic entitled “America the Beautiful”. 1980 marked the beginning of America’s slow downhill slide to endless wars and the dictatorship of the billionaire class.

Did we see President Brylcreem doing any humanitarian things after he left office? Not a single one.

Fast forward thirty five years and we witness the culmination of events that were birthed during Brylcreem’s tenure: the bloated military budget, wars without end, tax the poor and feed the rich, criminalize poverty, eliminate mental healthcare and allow prison corporations to lock-up 25% of America in an imaginary war.

Then enter stage left, Donald Trump, a human reality show, an individual with no political experience, no government experience, nor foreign policy experience. Just like President Brylcreem, he can play a great role. He hates Mexico and Mexicans, but his hats, “Make America Great Again”, are manufactured in Mexico and marketed by Amazon. He portrays China as the enemy, yet he manufactures his clothing line there.

And here’s one for the history books (the Texas edition, only), his recent quote: “The beauty of me is that I’m very rich.” Yeah, that’s really deep, Mr. Trump. That’s what really matters and yet, most Americans will secretly agree with you. You tell it like it is, buddy.

Trump’s enterprising moves are comparable to and just as disingenuous as Dick Cheney making $35 million dollars from the Iraq war, while simultaneously murdering 700,000 people and avoiding prosecution. It’s the American way, you know.

Trump’s latest gathering in Alabama was described by journalists as a “circus”. It was indeed and the chief baboon was in the center ring. In a brilliant article by Matt Taibbi, he claims Trump has inadvertently forced the other candidates to get comparably crazy and crude in order to stay in the race.

“…like the first sign of the collapse of the United States as a global superpower. Twenty years from now, when we're all living like prehistory hominids and hunting rats with sticks, we'll probably look back at this moment as the beginning of the end.”

Unlike Jimmy Carter, Donald Trump typifies the worst of America. He is us and we are him. He was made in America by Americans.

Trump is America's mirror. His ignorance, his crass remarks, his idolatry of money, his ego; all of it is a reflection of how stupid, common, hateful, and trashy America has become. Trump appeals to us because he reflects what we value: Cheapness of character, money and the power it buys supersedes all else, multiple spouses, children out of wedlock, super-sized egos to be fed. There is no depth to Trump's personality or his intelligence, just like the Americans who are hypnotized by sports, video games, movies, television and pornography. His excessive pride in being politically incorrect (he calls it honesty) is nothing more than an excuse to get attention.

Congratulations America! Hope you're proud of your creation. Because it's really, really YOU.

Have done much even if he had wanted too. However, one can look at the 2 Bushes and definitely make a comparision.

I do believe Carter was a good president. It is an interesting fact how Repulicans and the media have trashed Democratic presidents from Carter on as somehow not being good enough, smart enough or classy enough to hold office.
