The most damning part of Donald Trumps political rise
Remember when the 2016 field of Republican presidential candidates was supposed to be so deep and talented? Then why is a reality TV clown beating all of them?
............
Its late August, so obviously things will likely change by the time Iowa starts to caucus. But remember, the whole point of this deep GOP bench was supposed to be that it would thwart the absurdity of the 2012 cycle, when Herman Cain and Michele Bachmann were front-runners for a time. And yet in this cycle, its gotten to the point where William Kristol has morphed from praising the current crop of strong candidates to fretting that the rest of the field isnt what it should be and encouraging Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to enter the race.
So heres my question: What does it say about the deep GOP bench that none of them have managed to outperform a guy who has no comparative political advantage except celebrity and a willingness to insult anyone who crosses his path?

its a reflection of the GOP base.
As stupid and unqualified as the clown car is, the GOP primary voter has an average IQ somewhere south of Rush Limbaugh's right ass cheek.

It just is a perfect storm, it normally would not work this way, but once he got the opening, he hit it 100 percent and it just broke the whole thing down ...
Still a long way to go, and things could turn around, but it has lasted long enough and in fact has grown more strident that it cant be dismissed out of hand anymore.
Normally they get their peiple to get behind milqtoast establishment candidate ...

When you ad his remarkable ability to play the far right as it if was a flute stuck in his ass, he can not be beat.

(81,861 posts)The idea is as ridiculous as the person that came up with it. Alito has one of the best jobs on the planet and without the stress and BS of the presidency. And there are plenty of ideologues in the republican field.
