County Democratic Party Chairman Anthony Giardini said he drove to the fairgrounds Thursday morning after reading about the controversy in The Chronicle-Telegram and stripped the partys booth of banners and party literature. He said he left behind the tables, a chair and signs for individual candidates.
Giardini said he finds the Confederate flag offensive because of its meaning as both a symbol of revolt against the United States and because the South was fighting to maintain slavery during the Civil War.
I speak for our party and our party, as long as I am chairman, is not going to support an event or organization that allows that flag to be displayed or sold, he said ...

(8,554 posts)with actual pictures of what that despicable flag really represents, the tortured Blacks, the slaving in the fields, the auction blocks, the families destroyed as chattel property, Civil War soldiers lying dead by the thousands on the battlefields, row upon row of headstones in graveyards all over the country, the more than a million deaths that were the result of the sickening stance taken by the CSA.
In my experience as a former Ohioan, I can say that there are many in that state who never learned the facts of that horrible conflict, have no idea of the history and the significance of the role our state played during that time, with the Underground Railroad being the shining star its county fairs should promote (especially Lorain Co.), not some shitty banner from those Ohio opposed so many years ago.
