(53,661 posts)When the reporters asked if he thought they'd do it again, as he was walking away he said with a smirk: NO.
I figured that walk he did from the White House to the Federal Reserve had something to do with that. And the bankers called up every Republican and told them to knock it off - or else.
They all looked whipped when the government opened back up again after all their mischief. I keep wondering what they were threatened with and by whom.
Geithner was hopping mad as he testified before the GOP dingbats in Congress and told them they were violating the Constition. I wonder if something like what Lincoln did, sequestering the Congress and refusing to let them leave until they'd acted, was what PBO threatened with

It's probably a combination of real footage and some skit or parody. Somebody mentioned Keye & Peele (sp?) so that might have been it.

(53,339 posts)But if I'm guessing right, you're concerned about executive overreach and abuse of authority, as all of us progressives are. Luckily those EO executive actions are subject to oversight by the judiciary and can be overturned if they exceed constitutional executive authority. And President Obama's Executive Orders have been, and will surely continue to be challenged in the courts.
And he is not a 'unitary executive' kind of guy.

(15,438 posts)much feels the way he's portrayed in that vid especially when he beats the obstruction of Republicans (and some wayward Dems) and gets what he wants...but as president of the United States, of course, there's a certain decorum to be maintained. Still, those twinkles in his eyes, that handsome smirk...there's that impish Barack inside dying to come out to play. lol

(15,438 posts)which E.O. are you referring to, JEB?
And can you tell me if Bernie Sanders regrets his no-vote on the 2007 immigration bill when it had a good chance of passing Congress and signed into law (Dems held majorities in both chambers of Congress and *Bush pushed for the law) as opposed to his yes-vote on the 2013 immigration bill (when Repubs took control of both chambers of Congress) that didn't have a snowball's chance in Hades to go anywhere?
Thanks in advance.

(4,748 posts)I like President Obama's executive action and speech about immigration. http://www.uscis.gov/immigrationaction
https://www.whitehouse.gov/issues/immigration/immigration-action
But the courts have stopped this in its tracks. Is that kicking ass?
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)Why, yes it is! And you get to guess why. I'll give you three guesses, but I'll help you along...The U.S. District Judge, Andrew S. Hanen, a G.W. Bush guy, blocked implementation of DACA, not "the courts". He's a xenophobic Republican. Catch my drift now?
http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/08/politics/immigration-obama-district-court-decision/
By the way, did you miss the query I posed to you in my previous post? I asked you if Bernie Sanders has any regrets for voting against the 2007 immigration reform bill that would have made the E.O.s unnecessary. Or are you going to pretend you didn't see it again?
JEB
(4,748 posts)I thought the thread was about executive orders. I like many that President Obama has executed and attempted to order. The courts are full of rot from the Bushes.

"Criticism
The bills received heated criticism from both the right wing and the left wing. Conservatives rejected providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, as it would reward them for disregarding United States immigration laws. Liberals criticized the points-based system and provisions limiting family reunification visas available to only nuclear family members of US citizens as unfair. Labor unions, human rights, and some Hispanic organizations attacked the guest workers program, claiming that it would create a group of underclass workers with no benefits.[15] Another criticism of the guest workers program was that because each guest worker is required to return home for a year before renewing his or her visa, these workers would instead overstay their visa, becoming illegal immigrants.
High-tech industry criticized the point-based green card system for scrapping employer sponsorship of green card applications and eliminating priority processing for the highly skilled workers specifically selected by the U.S. employers.[16] Many immigration practitioners, while supporting aspects of the proposal, criticized the bill as "unworkable" and called for fundamentally revising it.[17] Critics of the bill in the U.S. Senate also complained that the Senate consideration of the bill did not follow the usual procedure, as the bill did not go through the committee debate and approval process and the opportunities to offer floor amendments were limited.[18][19]"
Immigration is always complicated and difficult.
Thanks for the funny finger wag.

(15,438 posts)or if they can catch him on some show before or after them. I'm certain they're dying to find out, being the second largest voting demographic in the United States today, and poised to become the largest by 2020.
And my post tied into that since, had Bernie Sanders stood with Democrats and voted for the 2007 immigration reform bill, he would've shown his support for the undocumented workers in this country, and had it passed (which it had a good chance of doing in 2007 with none other than G.W. Bush pushing to get it passed and would happily sign it into law), President Obama's E.O.s on immigration wouldn't have been necessary, would they?
JEB
(4,748 posts)The devil is always in the details. I share the Presidents frustration on this. I thought it might actually be a step forward. The deferred action has helped many but other deserving people are falling through the cracks.
BlueCaliDem
(15,438 posts)governor and as president. They like him, and he was genuinely trying to push through immigration reform. It's why Republican and Tea Party voters hate him so much today. Not because of lying us into war, or destroying our economy, or being one of the worst presidents of U.S. history - one who was alienating just about every ally we had in the world...but because of immigration reform.
Senator Sanders had voted for the 2013 immigration reform bill, but he darn well knew it couldn't pass a Tea Party House and Republican Senate, so it was a safe vote. Just as an F.Y.I., the reason for Bernie Sanders to have voted against the 2007 - or at least the one he gave - was the language regarding guest workers. Strange, but the same language was in the 2013 bill and he voted for it...most likely with an eye on his presidential aspirations.

Congress? No idea what that is.
God said noooo to things that scare me!
Glamor shot for dad.
Who the fuck ARE these folks again? I hear ANOTHER federal employee punishment ploy is in the works. The GOP must wake up and go to bed hating themselves. They eat anger and drink fear.
Good thing the POTUS has a plan in place that has worked so well that the GOP is falling apart.
The master move brush off plus shoulder shrug. Creating a real problem for goat people.
They said the goat was 18, really I had no idea about the pot she musta been holdin.
Great captions for those dreadfully ugly geooopeeeers!
