Hurricane Katrina - Ten Years After

Katrina ten years later. For weeks I have resented the reminder of the worst natural disaster in American history right in all of our back yards.

Then the political debates over which politician was better in 2005, and finally the live remotes making a spectacle of something that brought tears to all of us...why remind us?

And then I remembered the 9-year old girl in North Carolina who sold lemonade on her free Saturday, and gave the $53 to my 83-year old father-in-law whose house in Chalmette was destroyed under 12 feet of water. And I remember the rest of the country and people of the world who donated and personally worked to help us rebuild.

They deserve to see the fruits of their efforts and the difference that they made ten years after. This 10 Years After Katrina media extravaganza is for them.

New Orleans could not have survived without the help of the world, and we are grateful and blessed for their generosity. Thank you.
